Wolves host Brentford on the final day of the Premier League season, knowing they must conquer a worrying 15-year record.
Crystal Palace comfortably dispatched Wolves last time out, with a number of Molineux stars disappointing at Selhurst Park.
Although Vitor Pereira’s men already seem like they’re on the beach, they do still have one game remaining, playing host to high-flying Brentford on the final day.
Currently sitting ninth in the Premier League table, still within a shot of Europe, Thomas Frank’s side will be a tough task. One that will be made even harder by Wolves’ poor record on the final day.

Wolves’ worrying final-day record
Pereira’s record-breaking start has teetered off slightly in recent weeks, with Wolves currently on a run of three straight losses.
The Portuguese boss will be hoping to avoid a fourth straight defeat and end the season on a high – the history books, however, suggest that won’t be an easy task.
That is because Wolves have actually lost their final league match in each of the last seven seasons by an aggregate score of 19-2.
Season | Wolves’ last five final results |
23/24 | Liverpool 2-0 Wolves |
22/23 | Arsenal 5-0 Wolves |
21/22 | Liverpool 3-1 Wolves |
20/21 | Wolves 2-1 Man United |
19/20 | Chelsea 2-0 Wolves |
The Molineux outfit have also lost on the final day in nine of their 10 campaigns as a Premier League side, with the exception being a 2-1 win over Sunderland in 2009-10.
Brentford have been a bogey team for Wolves
Given their barren record on the final day, Pereira will be hoping to become the first Wolves boss since Mick McCarthy to win on the final day of a Premier League season.
Brentford though will be no walk in the park, especially given their impressive run against Wolves.
Frank’s side have won their last two fixtures against the Molineux outfit, with Wolves only losing more consecutively against the Bees between 1946 and 1986 (4).
Date | Result |
February 2024 | Wolves 0-2 Brentford |
October 2024 | Brentford 5-3 Wolves |
Wolves have an important summer ahead and a win on the final day would no doubt boost optimism heading into next season.
