Vitor Pereira might regret decision as Wolves star makes worst Premier League XI alongside Jose Sa

A summer decision made by Vitor Pereira doesn’t look like coming good for Wolves this season.

The many changes Vitor Pereira has made at the back have helped plug the leaks in Wolves’ defence.

One such change was to give Sam Johnstone the nod after Jose Sa’s less-than-convincing start.

Sa was rated worst performer in the Premier League this season, and Johnstone has come in and made a positive impact.

But another Wolves man has also been named in a worst performers XI, suggesting the decision to put so much trust in him prior to the season might have been made in haste.

Toti Gomes joins Jose Sa in Premier League worst XI

Wolves were always going to be among the worst in terms of performances. WhoScored, which rates performances out of 10, has released a lineup of the lowest-scoring players through seven games.

Sa is joined by teammate Toti Gomes, who has looked a step slow so far.

Toti was dealing with illness recently, but even before then, was being left out of Pereira’s lineup along with Emmanuel Agbadou.

His red card against Bournemouth has surely played a role in his low rating, but even disregarding that slip-up, the Portuguese just hasn’t looked solid at all.

Vitor Pereira might have made the wrong captaincy choice

It’s easy to look back in hindsight and conclude that Pereira’s decision to hand Toti the armband was the wrong one.

Ladislav Krejci’s arrival threatens the Wolves captain’s place in the side with how well he has adjusted to life in England. Add to that the change from three centre-backs to two, and Toti’s prospects don’t look too great.

Obviously, you want your captain starting most games, leading out on the pitch. But form is everything in football, and Toti’s isn’t good enough.

Of the four players picked by Pereira to form a leadership group, two have made the worst XI of the season so far and have thus been dropped.

Of the other two, Matt Doherty is recovering from injury, while Joao Gomes is doing his thing.

If Toti can’t fight his way back to a starting spot, surely Gomes is the man who should get the honours. He’s a certainty to start every week.
