Vitor Pereira left Rob Edwards a parting gift he will be thankful for at Wolves

By the end of his tenure, there were few positives for Wolves fans to look back on from Vitor Pereira’s time this season.

Many will not forget the work he did last campaign, but that all ultimately turned sour quite fast, and Rob Edwards is now set to lead the team from the dugout after the Portuguese was sacked in early November.

It is Crystal Palace up first, and Edwards has already set out his non-negotiables for his Wolves side as they look to turn around the position that Pereira has left Wolves in.

The situation the Old Gold are in is not ideal, and that is something Edwards certainly won’t appreciate having been handed to him.

However, he will be thankful about one thing his predecessor has provided him as he starts his managerial time at Wolves.

Wolves have had the fewest injuries in the Premier League

While being at the bottom of the table is worrying, Wolves are dead last in another table, and that one is positive.

Over the season, the Old Gold have picked up the fewest injuries (6), and those players have also missed the lowest number of games (10) so far.

It is a stat that portrays Vitor Pereira in even more of a negative light.

While he often brought up Jorgen Strand Larsen’s Achilles heel issues, he did have most of his squad available before being sacked.

With Edwards now at the club, he will be grateful that he has seemingly been handed a squad that does not frequently pick up injuries.

And we hope the ‘writer’s curse’ does not strike in this instance.

If Wolves are going to pull off an escape from relegation, they will need their full squad for a lot of the campaign, and one man on the sidelines will be a huge omission for Edwards.

Rodrigo Gomes will be a big miss for Rob Edwards

While the topic of Wolves’ lack of injury concerns is up, Rodrigo Gomes is one player who is currently sidelined.

The Portuguese wide player had to have surgery on a groin issue he picked up against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, and Gomes is set to miss four months of action.

He is a lively player, and Edwards will no doubt love the qualities he offers out wide, but for the time being, he will have to before he can assess him in person.

Hopefully he can recover well and we can see him take a starring role for the new head coach, with his versatility offering him multiple places in the team.

While he won’t relish his teammate being injured, Jackson Tchatchoua will welcome the opportunity Rodrigo Gomes’ injury brings.
