Vitor Pereira just admitted £4m Wolves player isn’t good enough, he’s ‘missing’ one thing

Wolves have made an excellent finish to their Premier League campaign, winning their last five matches, but plans will soon begin to have a successful summer.

Supporters will want the Matheus Cunha saga resolved instantly, and luckily, it appears the Brazilian is already on his way out of Molineux.

Cunha has agreed to join Manchester United, who are willing to trigger his £62.5 million release clause and make him their marquee signing.

Wolves will seriously miss the individual talents and skill of the Brazilian, though recent performances have implied that Vitor Pereira’s men play better without him.

The 25-year-old isn’t the only player who is set to exit Molineux, though, as one of Pereira’s fringe players will surely depart the club.

Vitor Pereira thinks Tommy Doyle isn’t good enough

In the last few months, it’s become clearer that midfielder Tommy Doyle isn’t a part of Pereira’s plans.

The 23-year-old last featured in January as Wolves lost 3-0 to Nottingham Forest, seeing his involvement restricted to substitute appearances.

Pereira is concerned by Doyle’s limitations, and in a recent interview with the E&S, he claimed that he’s ‘missing’ the physicality required to play in his midfield two.

58 games
2 goals
1 assist

“Technically-speaking, he’s a very good player, but in my opinion he’s missing the physicality to face this league,” the Portuguese boss said.

“To run 50 metres, to come back 50 metres and then go 50 metres again.

“We are not a team to have 80 per cent of possession, so he has problems. If we are a team that has the ball every time, doesn’t allow counter-attacks and keeps the ball to dominate the opponent, this is the team for him.

“But we need to understand that we face top teams, top players. We need to run a lot and he’s missing this physicality, especially when we play with two midfielders.

“With three midfielders, I believe he is a 10 with high quality. The last pass, shots, crosses – he has those skills.”

Pereira thinks Doyle isn’t good enough for the all-action system he plays, instead feeling that he’s better suited to being a number 10.

Pereira shares update on Doyle’s future

Molineux News exclusive revealed last week that Doyle accepts he will leave Wolves this summer, with clubs surely interested.

Championship clubs wanted to sign Doyle in the January transfer window and one of those were Sunderland, who could realistically come back in for him.

So, despite the season yet to reach its conclusion, Pereira has already pencilled in a conversation with the player Wolves signed for £4.3 million, hinting that he’s going to depart.

“Usually, at the end of a season, I have a conversation with the players to understand,” he added. “If I have a conversation with a player and they say they are not happy because they want to play, and I can’t guarantee they will play a lot of games next season, then this is a decision.

“It’s not a decision just from my part or the club’s part, it’s a conversation between the coach, the club and the player to decide.

“I believe we cannot be in a place if we are not happy, because we cannot be ourselves.

“You need to have players here with their mind and heart here, happy, because they feel this happiness inside.”

For Doyle to prosper and reach his potential, a move out of Molineux is necessary, even if he’s adored by sections of the fanbase.
