Vitor Pereira identifies one crucial factor that’s currently holding Wolves back

Wolves remain bottom of the Premier League after five games, still without a point to their name.

The Old Gold took the lead for the first time this season, but fell to a 3-1 defeat against Leeds United.

Manager Vitor Pereira has insisted he is not feeling outside pressure, despite the mounting scrutiny.

Frustration boiled over inside Molineux, as fans chanted for Fosun to sell the club midway through the second half.

While Pereira refused to blame his players for the fifth consecutive defeat, he stressed that the key to reviving Wolves’ season lies in improving one crucial aspect of their game.

Vitor Pereira says Wolves need a result to lift confidence

Wolves now turn their attention to the League Cup, where they face Everton at Molineux.

Pereira’s side will then travel to London to take on Thomas Frank’s Spurs in the Premier League, a daunting fixture as they continue their search for their first points of the season.

The Old Gold boss stressed that once his side secure a positive result, their belief will return and performances will naturally improve.

As reported by the Express & Star, he said: “It’s a difficult time for us, but I know the way to increase it is to work.

“Mentally, I think we need a result to give us the confidence to not commit easy mistakes, to have more confidence in the box to score, and sometimes it just takes a result to change everything.”

Wayne Rooney also identified the lack of confidence in the Wolves team and he also stressed the need for the West Midlands outfit to start picking up points.

Wolves need to build momentum against Everton

The Carabao Cup tie against Everton comes at the perfect time for Wolves to build momentum that they can carry into their league campaign.

The West Midlands side fell to a 3-2 defeat against Everton in the Premier League earlier this season, but with the Toffees expected to rotate, the Old Gold have a real chance to make a statement.

A positive result would also go a long way to getting the fans back onside after a difficult start.

It also provides Pereira with the opportunity to work out his best team and find the right balance in attack.

Most importantly, a win could help restore some much-needed confidence, as Wolves aim to avoid a second consecutive relegation battle.
