Vitor Pereira gives his thoughts on leaving Wolves as pressure mounts

As Wolves still search for their first Premier League win, Vitor Pereira has addressed speculation surrounding his future at Molineux.

Vitor Pereira has been an admired figure at Wolves since taking the reins almost a year ago, but the run of form his side have started the season with is chipping away at the credit he has banked with fans.

The 2-0 loss to Sunderland hasn’t helped his case. Fans made their displeasure known at the final whistle, and now the discourse is moving into unwanted territory.

Well aware of the pressure mounting on him, Pereira has spoken out after Saturday’s game about his future at the club.

Vitor Pereira sends a message to players and fans

Pereira was in the hot seat after the game, and was asked about squad morale after another failed attempt at three points, as well as his own view on his position at Wolves.

The Wolves boss isn’t writing anything off, still believing in his squad and in himself.

As E&S reports, he responded: “Honestly, if for one minute I feel my players are not with me, it’s finished. For me, that’s the end. But I don’t feel that, I feel that they are frustrated because they know the work we do every day.

“We lost a chance to get points again, but this is the moment I need to help them. I’m worried about them, my team, the club and the supporters. I want to help the club to win games because I’m not a problem and if I feel that I’m a problem, finished.”

Despite the noise that’s sure to follow this result, Pereira is resolute in his intention to keep trying.

Pereira acknowledges that Burnley is a must-win

It seems obvious, but next weekend’s clash with Burnley is now of paramount importance.

After Burnley’s win over Leeds, the gap to Premier League safety is now five points. If that continues to grow, it puts Wolves in a very difficult spot for the rest of the season and likely means a change in manager sooner rather than later.

And Pereira recognises this. On the upcoming fixture, he remarks: “This is the moment that we need to change with a win. We must win. The next game is very important for us.”

Morale in the Wolves dressing room threatens to become an issue, and a win would be a massive confidence boost for the players. It could also be Pereira’s last hope of keeping his job.
