Vitor Pereira may have dropped a hint about what Wolves could do in the January transfer window, after the defeat to Sunderland.
Wolves crashed to a 2-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light to remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
Fans had been somewhat optimistic about the game after recent improvements against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton.
But Wolves were poor, and some travelling fans let their feelings be known after the final whistle, jeering the team as they came over at the end.
It was a big opportunity missed for Wolves. Although Sunderland have made a great start to the new season, they are still a newly promoted side.
But it seems clear that Wolves just don’t have the quality at the moment, and a relegation battle looks inevitable.
It is already starting to feel like Wolves need the January transfer window – and after Saturday’s defeat, Pereira hinted he could go after one type of player in particular.
Vitor Pereira wants new winger for Wolves

In recent weeks, we have seen Pereira change the system at Wolves.
For the last three Premier League games, and also the match against Everton in the Carabao Cup, Wolves have set up with a back four to begin with.
That has meant that Wolves have used wingers, as opposed to two number 10s.
This is interesting to consider, because Wolves’ summer recruitment revolved around getting players for a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 system.
So currently, the squad is lacking natural wingers, something Pereira seemed to acknowledge on Saturday.
He said in his post-match press conference (via The Athletic): “We changed the system. At this moment, we have a lot of players – the right players to play in the 3-4-3, but we are missing wingers.
“Now we are trying to find solutions in the squad to add more wingers.”
Wolves facing a massive January
There are obviously still a couple of months to go until the next transfer window opens, but it is already looking like Wolves will need to get busy.
Currently, the squad is lacking quality, and also balance.
Journalist Liam Keen reported recently that Wolves could look at two positions in the next transfer window, with a midfielder being high on the agenda, and either a number 10 or a new winger to follow, potentially depending on which system is more prominent at the time.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
15 | 8 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 7 | 13 | -6 | 8 | |
16 | 7 | 2 | 1 | 4 | 9 | 12 | -3 | 7 | |
17 | 8 | 2 | 1 | 5 | 9 | 15 | -6 | 7 | |
18 | 8 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 5 | 15 | -10 | 5 | |
19 | 7 | 1 | 1 | 5 | 6 | 16 | -10 | 4 | |
20 | 8 | 0 | 2 | 6 | 5 | 16 | -11 | 2 |
It seems like the switch to a back four could be sticking around, and so naturally Wolves will need to play with wingers. At the moment, only Rodrigo Gomes and Hwang Hee-chan can be considered natural wide men, and even they aren’t used there all the time.
The issue Wolves may have though is attracting players, amid the fight against relegation.
If Wolves are still down at the bottom, and there has been little evidence to suggest they’ll push up much higher, then it could be really hard to convince players to come and be part of a relegation battle.
