Vitor Pereira drops fresh hint over Yerson Mosquera after just two Wolves starts so far

Wolves fans are delighted that Yerson Mosquera is back in the picture.

The Colombian defender missed the majority of last season after sustaining ACL and MCL damage in a Premier League game against Aston Villa.

Yerson Mosquera had been hoping to thrive, after having successful loans with FC Cincinnati and Villarreal.

But sadly he was robbed of the chance to kick on.

Now, after returning early to pre-season, Mosquera is back for Wolves and fans are hoping to see the 24-year-old pick back up where he left off. Undoubtedly, Mosquera had been one of Wolves’ best players at the start of the 2024/25 season.

And Vitor Pereira has now shared what he intends to do with Mosquera.

Since last season, Wolves fans have been looking forward to seeing Mosquera back in the backline for Wolves.

The idea of a Mosquera-Agbadou-Toti defence was something many were excited by.

Sadly, Emmanuel Agbadou’s form has been poor so far, as has Toti’s. So at this point, we are talking about Mosquera potentially replacing one of those two.

But it seems Pereira is going to be cautious with Mosquera after such a serious injury.

Hinting at a rotation role this season, the Wolves manager admitted (via E&S): “He had a very serious injury and I cannot push him too much because I need to respect the medical department.

“I like him as a player and I like the character. He can give everything.”

Mosquera must curb his enthusiasm

It is so good to see Mosquera back playing, as he is a real talent and also a very popular member of the squad.

He has had rotten luck with injuries since first signed for Wolves, and hopefully this will be the campaign where he stays fit from start to finish.

One thing Mosquera – who cost Wolves £4.5 million (The Athletic) – must do though is curb his enthusiasm a little.

We know he is very aggressive with his style of defending, which is a good thing. But at times he can sometimes be overly rash – Mosquera was fortunate not to get sent off against Newcastle United.

With Pereira likely to use him on a rotation basis, Mosquera will probably play with additional eagerness to try and make an impression. But he must be careful he doesn’t end up doing something costly.
