Vitor Pereira delivers verdict on why Wolves have struggled in the Premier League this season

Wolves are looking to put an end to their miserable start to the season with a positive result against Tottenham.

The Old Gold have struggled to find any momentum in the league, with intense scrutiny now on the manager, players, and the club’s ownership.

To add to their concerns, they face one of the most in-form teams in the division.

However, Wolves will have Jorgen Strand Larsen available, who has been cleared to feature against Spurs, although he is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes.

Ahead of the clash, Vitor Pereira has given insight into the factors behind Wolves’ slow start this season.

Vitor Pereira blames slow recruitment for poor start

Recently, Pereira admitted Wolves’ six summer signings are still adapting to the Premier League, and he also highlighted the challenges Wolves faced following a number of high-profile departures.

The club spent considerable time identifying and integrating replacements, which hampered their pre-season preparations.

The majority of Wolves‘ transfer business was completed late in the window, with David Moller Wolfe arriving just over a week before the Premier League opener against Manchester City.

Similarly, Tolu Arokodare and Ladislav Krejci had no pre-season training and were immediately thrown into the deep end against Newcastle, further impacting early-season performances.

While reflecting on Wolves’ early-season struggles, the Portuguese manager highlighted how slow recruitment has contributed to their current position in the table.

As relayed by journalist Liam Keen, Pereira said: “Of course there’s concern, I don’t like being in this position in the table, but I know why the start was not the best.

“We faced some problems, especially when the players came late in the market. Now I feel they have started the connection between them.”

Fosun responsible for yet another slow start

Clearly, Fosun have played a significant role in Wolves’ recurring slow starts.

The owners allowed several key first-team players to leave without having replacements ready, a stark contrast to other Premier League clubs, who immediately respond to outgoing transfers.

Adding to the criticism of Fosun’s handling of transfers, Tim Sherwood has even suggested Wolves could panic in January if their league position doesn’t improve.

The slow recruitment approach simply cannot continue if Wolves are to avoid poor starts and the prospect of relegation.

The lack of cohesion throughout the squad has been evident in recent weeks, with it taking until the fifth match of the season for the new signings to begin gelling and showing signs of promise.
