We are now at the point in the season where some Wolves players have to be wary about picking up yellow cards due to the threat of suspension.
It has been a poor start to the new campaign for Wolves, who have just two points from seven games so far and are still winless.
Fans knew it would be a tough first few weeks and it has certainly proven to be just that.
But Wanderers have looked better in recent weeks and there is a feeling that that first win is coming.
But in order to get it, one suspects that Vitor Pereira will need his best players on the pitch and playing well.
Pereira is likely to have his best team available to face Sunderland this weekend – but one player will have to watch his step.
Joao Gomes in danger of one-game ban for Wolves

Currently, Wolves have one player on four yellow cards.
That man is Joao Gomes, meaning one more caution for the Brazilian and he will have to serve a one-game ban.
This is not unfamiliar territory for Gomes, who missed a game against Arsenal in 2023/24 after picking up five yellow cards, and then last season missed the game against Ipswich Town at Molineux, which proved to be Gary O’Neil’s final match in charge.

And there are another couple of Wolves players who perhaps just need to be a bit mindful.
Gomes’ midfielder partner Andre has picked up three bookings so far, as has Matt Doherty.
If these players can get past the 19th Premier League fixture of the season without getting to five bookings, then the one-game ban can be avoided.
Gomes gets too many bookings
If Wolves fans have learned one thing about Gomes since he came to the club in January 2023, it’s that he does love a yellow card.
He has made 98 appearances for the club to date, and been cautioned 30 times. That is a yellow card every 3.26 matches. He’s also been sent off twice.
Fans love Gomes’ combative and tenacious way of playing, and there is no denying he is one of the top ball-winners in the Premier League.

But there is still scope for Gomes – who is currently on Brazil duty – to curb his enthusiasm a little.
It’s not the best thing for him to be on bookings in games, as he then can’t be as forceful for the remainder of the game, and sometimes he will get hooked for his own good.
And of course, like now, there are situations where Gomes faces the threat of suspension.
