Vitor Pereira confirms Wolves midfielder broke promise but explains why

Vitor Pereira suffered his first Wolves defeat since taking over from Gary O’Neil.

After taking seven points from his first three matches, the Wolves manager had started life at Molineux well.

However, Monday night’s fixture saw the Midlands giants handed their first defeat since the second week of December after Forest ran out 3-0 winners.

Unfortunately for Pereira, while the transfer rumours surround Mario Lemina moving to Al Shabab, Monday night was also made harder by one player’s unavailability.

Vitor Pereira confirms reason for broken Andre promise

Midfielder Andre was not part of the Wolves first-team who welcomed Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest to Molineux.

Pereira confirmed Andre was allowed to travel to back to South America for the birth of his son during last week’s press conference.

Revealing he had made an agreement with the 23-year-old to return in time for Monday’s clash, Pereira said: “Andre is not a problem for us but he is not here because his son was born in Brazil.

“I think a father must be with his son and with his wife. This is a moment that I cannot say no to. This is like a commitment between him and me. The commitment is he must come back for the game.”

However, despite promising his manager he’ll be back in England in time for the Wolves vs. Forest match, Andre was absent from his side’s matchday squad — leaving fans wondering what had happened.

Confirming after the game the reason for Andre’s absence, Pereira revealed the midfielder was allowed additional time off due to one of his family members being unwell.

Fair enough — some things in life are more important than football.

Lack of Andre and Lemina partnership prove Wolves’ need to make signings

While Andre should return soon, there are no guarantees Lemina will feature for the side again.

Despite coming on as a second-half substitute against Forest, the Gabon international remains a top target for the Saudi Pro League and could see a transfer agreement reached at any time.

With both Andre and Lemina failing to start against Forest and Pereira forced to name a midfield pairing of Tommy Doyle and Joao Gomes, it became apparent the Wolves boss will need to strengthen before the close of the January window.

Speaking about transfer after the game, the Wolves boss said: “If we want to be honest, we know and everybody knows, that we need some positions.

“We need to bring players to help us. More solutions to face this league and the club is working.

“I believe that the players will come. Not too many players, because I don’t want too many, but we need to recover our players as soon as possible and to bring two or three players to balance the team.”

The club are on the verge of unveiling Emmanuel Agbadou from Stade Reims while Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff is also linked with joining Wolves.
