Vincent Kompany names the one Wolves player he thinks is ‘really good’

Wolves are taking on Burnley in the Premier League tonight – and Vincent Kompany has given his thoughts about the team ahead of the game.

The 2-1 loss to Arsenal means Wanderers have suffered back-to-back defeats and the team are looking to get back to winning ways in front of the Molineux faithful this evening.

Burnley beat Sheffield United 5-0 at the weekend and will be feeling confident of a positive result tonight.

Wolves have a poor record against the Clarets of late – the last win against them came back in 2018, with Burnley unbeaten in the seven meetings since.

Gary O’Neil needs his players fired up, and one man Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is wary of is Matheus Cunha

Kompany spoke to the media about Wolves ahead of tonight’s clash at Molineux, and is under no illusion his side have a tough game on their hands.

Wanderers have been really good at times this season, and should undoubtedly be higher in the Premier League table. They would have been had it not been for some awful officiating at times.

One of Wolves’ best players this season has been Matheus Cunha, who is a player Kompany rates.

He said (via Burnley official): “When you analyse those teams obviously, you’re always confronted with the quality of those squads. You’ve got a £45 million striker upfront there who’s someone that I think is really good.

“They’ve got just quality but it’s no different for us than every game we face in this league and we’ve been good in many, we’ve not always had the result but we have to continue trying to follow that path and believe that we’re going to get results.”

Fair play Kompany

It is always nice to have an opposition manager praising a Wolves player, and it’s great to see Cunha coming in for some acknowledgment from Kompany.

Most of the talk this season has been about Hwang Hee-chan and Pedro Neto, with Cunha sometimes overlooked as someone who hasn’t scored or assisted as many goals.

But the £60,000-a-week star has also had a really strong season, and the goals are starting to flow a bit more now.

He is such an interesting player to watch. That ball-carrying ability is simply amazing at times and he gets through a lot of work for the team – it is little wonder O’Neil likes him so much.

As has been said several times previously, Cunha would be a truly top-class footballer if he was clinical. Perhaps he will get there one day, but he is certainly a major handful and Kompany will no doubt be looking to nullify him as much as possible tonight.
