Julen Lopetegui waved away a penalty claim in Wolves training as Mario Lemina challenged Diego Costa.
The players were taking part in a small-sided game in footage released by the club yesterday.
The exercise has become quite a regular thing, and it is designed to improve the players’ technical qualities.
It is an intense drill, and requires everyone to be thinking two steps ahead. There isn’t much space, so those that have a good touch will prosper.
The objective is simply to score as many goals as possible.
At one point (6:07), there is a coming together between Lemina and Costa.
Joao Moutinho rolls the ball into his fellow midfielder, but the Gabon star lets it run under his foot.
Costa latches onto the loose ball and as he is pulling the trigger, Lemina steps in and tries to nick the ball away.
Costa makes a very theatrical fall and screams out.
Raul Jimenez, remembering what happened at weekend, can be heard asking ‘red card again?’
Julen Lopetegui then comes over and decides ‘no penalty, it’s not a penalty. VAR? It’s no penalty’.
Costa gingerly gets to his feet, as Lopetegui pats the veteran on the back.
The video then cuts to the next clip so seemingly, Lemina got away with it…
