Gary O’Neil has arrived at Compton Park this morning, ready to start his tenure as Wolves manager.
The 40-year-old has entered the hot seat after Julen Lopetegui left the club on Tuesday.
Lopetegui reached an agreement to leave, after informing the club after the pre-season game with Celtic that he wanted out.
Lopetegui had been unhappy about the financial situation at the club and felt Wolves had moved the goalposts. He was apparently told at first that he would be able to make signings if he kept the club up.
The Spaniard has the sympathy of fans, but he is also being criticised by many for ‘engineering’ his exit.
His recent interview with Guillem Balague did not go down well with the Wolves hierarchy.
It is now time for a new chapter, and O’Neil is in place and ready to go.
Gary O’Neil is in the building
After being appointed yesterday, O’Neil has arrived at Compton Park this morning ready to take his first training session.
O’Neil pitching up at Compton was documented by the club’s social media channels this morning.
O’Neil, cutting a relaxed figure, makes his way into the building and is greeted by sporting director Matt Hobbs.
Hobbs was the man who led the hiring process for O’Neil, as revealed by journalist Liam Keen on the latest Express & Star podcast.
Hobbs also led the talks for Lopetegui’s exit ‘entirely’, with chairman Jeff Shi currently in China.
Wolves play their first Premier League game on Monday against Manchester United.
Crucial days for Gary O’Neil as he starts Wolves tenure
O’Neil is officially in the building – and he now starts what is an enormous job.
There is disarray at Wolves following the exit of Lopetegui.

Thankfully for O’Neil, Wolves aren’t in action until Monday, giving him a few crucial days with his new players.
At first, O’Neil needs to just settle things down.
He needs get all of the players on side and get their respect from the get-go.
He also needs filling in on what the squad has been working on tactically, so he can perhaps just try and build on what they’ve been doing, before implementing his own ideas.
