Video: Diego Costa scores for Wolves in training match against Birmingham City

Diego Costa scored a goal for Wolves yesterday in a training match against Birmingham City.

Wanderers took on the Championship side at Compton Park in a friendly match, which was an opportunity for Julen Lopetegui to put a few things into practice.

It was a chance for Lopetegui to get a look at his new players in a match setting, having been working with them for around a week.

Information about the game is a little thin on the ground since it took place behind closed doors.

But Wolves said that the game finished 2-2, and that both Diego Costa and Daniel Podence were the scorers against the Blues.

Wolves filmed the game, and yesterday evening released footage of Costa’s goal.

It was a nice team move, with Maximilian Kilman and Hugo Bueno starting things off from the back. The ball comes to Joe Hodge who clips a ball down the line for Nelson Semedo, who delivers a brilliant low cross for Costa to slide in past John Ruddy.

Costa has yet to score for Wolves in a competitive setting since making his move to the club as a free agent.

The 34-year-old has had quite a few decent chances, but he’s still waiting for that first goal.

He’s made six appearances so far for the club, and fans will hope this goal against Birmingham is a sign of things to come under Lopetegui.

Wolves fans have kept their expectations low with Costa, given his age and the fact he had not played football for a while before moving to Molineux.

But it is reasonable to now expect more from him once club football returns.

His fitness should be close to peak levels by now.

And he has managed to get a feel for the Premier League again after a few years away.

Hopefully he is able to hit the goalscoring trail under Lopetegui.
