Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera was on the receiving end of a shocking headbutt last night.
The central defender is currently on loan with FC Cincinnati, where has been since January.
The plan for Wolves had been to send the Colombian out at the start of last season.
But that was dependent on Wolves being able to replace him.
They’d targeted Craig Dawson, but were unable to get a deal done. They finally got that deal done in January, of course, which allowed Mosquera to then head out.
It’s been a productive spell so far for Mosquera, who has been a regular starter for Cincinnati.
But last night, Wolves’ £4.5 million buy from Atletico Nacional was shockingly headbutted by an opposition player.
Alan Pulido plants headbutt on Wolves youngster Yerson Mosquera
Cincinnati were in action against Sporting Kansas City in a Leagues Cup match.
The game was incident-packed, and included two own goals and two penalties – one of which was converted in the 98th minute.
The game finished 3-3, and Cincinnati then triumphed 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
But the game was marred when in the 29th minute, with Kansas winning 2-0, Alan Pulido went to ground with Mosquera after trying to dispossess him.
Inexplicably, Pulido then planted a nasty headbutt on Mosquera. The official Leagues Cup Twitter account has shared the moment via a clip.
Mosquera had given Pulido a little shove with one hand. But Pulido completely lost his head.
Referee Daniel Quintero Huitrón instantly brandished a red card.
Inexcusable from Pulido
This was terrible to see from Pulido against Mosquera.
Maybe it was made to look worse than it was because Mosquera is moving towards Pulido. He was clearly not happy with his opposite number.

But it is still inexcusable from Pulido, who was rightly sent off.
He will now miss Kansas’ next game against Chivas de Guadalajara.
Thankfully Mosquera appears to be OK, with Cincinnati not reporting that he’s suffered any lasting damage.
