Gary O’Neil has been placed under immense pressure at Wolves after their horrific start to the Premier League season.
The Old Gold did clinch a 2-0 victory over Southampton before the break, their first of the campaign, but Wolves fans were still calling for Gary O’Neil to be sacked.
Their anger directed towards O’Neil is understandable as Wolves have the worst defence in the Premier League, conceding 27 goals in 11 matches while ranking fourth worst for expected goals against.
O’Neil will aim to sign a defender in January – if he isn’t sacked by then – but as it stands one of the club’s former managers is also under enormous previous to save his job.

Julen Lopetegui on the verge of being sacked by West Ham
Julen Lopetegui walked out of Molineux just before the start of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign as he felt he wasn’t being backed enough by Fosun in the transfer window.
Lopetegui kept Wolves in the Premier League in 2022/23, surviving by seven points after being bottom at Christmas.
The Spaniard deserved huge credit for turning his side’s fortunes around however, one problem they had was scoring goals and that has continued in his role at West Ham.
Lopetegui was hired by the Hammers to replace David Moyes in the summer but despite spending £122 million on nine new signings, the 58-year-old has struggled so far.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |

West Ham are currently 14th in the table after winning just three of their first 11 matches, and that has placed the manager on the verge of being sacked.
According to The Guardian, Lopetegui faces two make-or-break games against Newcastle United and Arsenal to save his job.
It is claimed that, although the club are clinging to the hope the Spaniard can turn the situation around, belief in the manager is fading and there is a serious prospect of him being fired this month.
Wolves considering David Moyes to replace Gary O’Neil
West Ham sacked Moyes from his post as manager in the summer after the Scotsman enjoyed a relatively successful spell in East London.
The veteran brought silverware back to the London Stadium, lifting the Europa Conference League trophy in 2023.
However, supporters became increasingly dissatisfied with the style of football and calls for him to leave grew strong last term despite the Hammers finishing ninth.
While replacing Moyes with Lopetegui hasn’t worked out as planned, an interesting update emerged at the start of this month.
Wolves reportedly placed Moyes on their shortlist to replace O’Neil alongside Luton Town manager Rob Edwards.
It remains to be seen whether O’Neil is sacked in the coming months but should they come to that resolution, the former West Ham manager could swiftly move to Wolverhampton.
