Unlucky Wolves ace now uncomfortably close to unwanted Conor Coady record after Arsenal loss

Wolves fell short against Arsenal, losing the game in heartbreaking fashion.

The Old Gold were seconds away from holding the Premier League leaders to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium, which would have been an impressive feat.

But sadly, after Tolu Arokodare equalised, the Gunners nicked it when Yerson Mosquera headed into his own net.

The centre-back jumped with Gabriel Jesus, but the pace and height saw him fail to clear, and the ball skidded off his head and into the net.

It was a cruel way to lose for Wolves, who were genuinely worth a point.

And the goal unfortunately moves Mosquera close to a record currently held by former captain Conor Coady.

It has not been lost on Wolves fans that Arsenal were able to win last night’s game without technically actually scoring a goal.

Of course before Mosquera put through his own net, Sam Johnstone had done the same to break the deadlock for Arsenal.

That rather sums up the way the season is going for Wolves, who have scored four own goals this term – more than any other side in the top-flight.

Wolves fans, what have you made of Yerson Mosquera’s season so far?

His unfortunate moment vs Arsenal puts him on two own goals for 25/26 so far 😔

But that unfortunate moment for Mosquera means he’s now on two own goals in the Premier League this season (his other coming against Fulham in November), and he ought to be careful moving forward to ensure he avoids matching – or even surpassing – an unwanted record.

Currently, as per Stat Muse, the Wolves player who’s scored the most own goals in a single Premier League campaign for Wolves is Conor Coady, with three.

The former captain put through his own net on three occasions in the 2018/19 season, with two of those actually coming in back to back games against Manchester City and Leicester City.

Who holds the record for most own goals in a Premier League season?

Mosquera will certainly hope that there’ll be no more own goals now after the one against Arsenal.

In terms of the outright record for most own goals ever in a single Premier League campaign, that honour goes to a player who is actually still playing in the competition.

In the 2017/18 season, Brighton defender Lewis Dunk actually scored four own goals.

They came against Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Swansea City.
