Two top Wolves executives hail Rob Edwards as new Molineux boss has one key ‘standout’ trait

The Rob Edwards era has now commenced, with Wolves officially announcing him as their new head coach this afternoon.

Wolves have got their man, 10 days after sacking Vitor Pereira following an awful start to the 2025/26 Premier League season.

For Rob Edwards it’s a return to Molineux, where he spent time as both a player and a coach.

The move has not been without controversy. Middlesbrough have been unhappy with the situation, with their feelings made clear in their statement today.

They’re disappointed and angry that Edwards has left, as are many of their fans.

But this is a huge opportunity for Edwards, who’ll now be looking to instigate a turnaround.

Wolves are said to be ‘confident’ that Edwards can unite the club in these trying times, and now a couple of executives have given their thoughts about the new manager.

Phil Hayward and Matt Jackson talk up Rob Edwards’ people skills

It remains to be seen if Wolves can get themselves out of trouble under Edwards.

At the moment, there are many problems for the new manager to fix, and undoubtedly the club will need a strong January transfer window.

But Wolves have high hopes for Edwards, and they see him as a long term appointment, even if the club slip into the Championship.

Today, as part of a wide release of content on the new manager, Phil Hayward and Matt Jackson, have given their verdicts on Edwards and both feel his ability to connect people makes him exactly the man Wolves need right now.

Hayward, who is Wolves’ director of performance, said (via Wolves official): “The big thing about Rob is his personality and people skills. His enthusiasm and his ability to get the most out of people. And that’s not just the players, but I feel like it’s the staff as well. People really want to work hard for him because he creates a real, good connection with people on a personal level.

“I feel like because of that interpersonal connection that he does establish people naturally, it motivates them to want to work hard for him and help him.”

Jackson, Wolves’ director of player recruitment and development, added: “Certainly the people skills are a standout element of it. He knows football, he’s worked hard in football, in tough jobs – it certainly hasn’t been an easy transition all the way through the stages he’s been at.

“Rob and his staff have demonstrated previously that they can be really good in shifting the culture, getting confidence quickly into players and building foundations for a really positive future.”

Edwards must emulate Vitor Pereira’s start at Wolves

Edwards is probably going to be very popular with the players and staff given everything that’s been said about his character and personality.

Essentially, he needs to start in the same way Vitor Pereira did at Wolves, which was to galvanise everyone amid the doom and gloom.

Pereira was very big on connection, and it really worked for him and was able to then pull a united club out of the danger zone.

If Edwards can achieve something similar, he will give this club a fighting chance in the Premier League.
