Wolves were inspired to a first victory of the season by Mateus Mane on Saturday – and Troy Deeney is the latest pundit to shower praise on the teenager.
The Old Gold ran out 3-0 winners against West Ham United at Molineux, giving the performance that fans have been desperate to see for so long.
West Ham were very poor. But Wolves were brilliant in all departments, and have finally managed to take all three points in a game.
How good can Mateus Mane become at Wolves?👏🏻
For Rob Edwards, it is a satisfying moment. He has worked extremely hard with the players and we are starting to see improvements.
But he knows there is still a huge amount to do.
But something he can do to make his job that little bit easier is keep playing Mateus Mane, who has come in for praise from Troy Deeney.
Mateus Mane named in Troy Deeney’s Premier League Team of the Week

Mane had a hand in all three of the goals Wolves scored against West Ham.
It was his brilliant turn and drive that put Hwang Hee-chan into a promising position to deliver the cross for Jhon Arias on the first goal.
Mane then won a penalty for Wolves, just beating Soungoutou Magassa to the ball first. Hwang made no mistake with the spot-kick.
Then, Mane got in on the act himself, finding space and drilling the ball into the bottom corner.
It led Alan Shearer to brand Mane ‘absolutely outstanding’ after the game, and Troy Deeney was also left impressed, naming the teenager in his latest Team of the Week.
He said (via BBC Sport): “Eighteen years old, England youth international, doesn’t have any noise, hasn’t got any brothers with T-shirts saying to ‘free him and let him play’ (a reference to Kobbie Mainoo’s brother).
“He goes out, plays, scores goals, gets an assist, gets the penalty and just delivers with no fuss. How beautiful is that? No fuss. I saw his interview after the game, he doesn’t complain, doesn’t get too over the top, just simple. Love it.”
Mane only the second Wolves inclusion for Deeney this season
Wolves have had a wretched season, meaning players in Old Gold have very rarely made it into Deeney’s Team of the Week.
Indeed, Mane is just the second inclusion all season.
The only other player to receive a nod was Santiago Bueno, when he scored for Wolves in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur back in September.
Do you agree with Jermain Defoe about Mateus Mane? 🔥
The teenager has been a breath of fresh air…
Hopefully the win against West Ham will now be the start of a positive run for Wolves and we can see more players being picked in various Teams of the Week.
And given how good Mane looks, there’s every chance he’ll be making a few more before the season is out
