Troy Deeney claims Wolves player channelled Zlatan Ibrahimovic vs Ipswich

Wolves took a huge step towards safety on Saturday, beating Ipswich Town 2-1 at Portman Road.

Vitor Pereira’s side have all but secured their status as a Premier League club now for next season, opening up a 12 point gap with just seven games to play.

Pablo Sarabia – who Wolves fans hailed for his display – helped the team turn the game on its head after he came on in the second-half.

The Spaniard scored himself, before turning provider for Jorgen Strand Larsen – this, after Liam Delap put the hosts 1-0 up.

Wolves showed great character at Portman Road.

And there was yet another great outing for Strand Larsen, who made it four goals in his last three games.

He’s stepping up to the plate in a big way for Wolves, and there was one thing he did yesterday that really impressed pundit Troy Deeney.

Strand Larsen has really come to the fore for Wolves in recent weeks.

Fans were worried when Matheus Cunha picked up that red card at Bourenmouth.

But the Norwegian has made big contributions in the Brazilian’s absence, and against Ipswich he left pundit Troy Deeney purring.

And it was for the touch he produced to collect the pass from Emmanuel Agbadou, before finding Pablo Sarabia who then equalised for Wolves.

Deeney said: “I told you it was coming. And what a touch from Strand Larsen, by the way. It’s a little, delicate lifted ball over the top. He pulls it out of the air, a bit like Ibrahimovic used to back in the day.

“Has all the guile, all the intelligence not to get the shot off. Plays it to Sarabia on the edge of the box, it comes back to him and finishes lovely on the half-volley into the far corner.

“It’s a hell of a touch. Most strikers would turn and try and get a shot off.”

Statistics again showed Strand Larsen was impactful for Wolves, and again happy to move around the pitch to influence the game.

Strand Larsen has been a terrific signing for Wolves

We are now starting to see the best of Strand Larsen in a Wolves shirt.

The number nine has been fantastic in his first season at Wolves, but he perhaps hasn’t always gotten the credit he’s deserved.

Matheus Cunha has grabbed all the headlines. But Strand Larsen has been excellent and is now only two league goals behind his teammate.

He always works so hard for the team.

Nelson Semedo praised Strand Larsen earlier this week, stating how important he is even when he doesn’t score.

It’s brilliant to see him thriving, and these last few games have shown Wolves are going to be fine in a post-Matheus Cunha world.
