Troy Deeney claims Wolves have a contender for most improved player this season

Things are looking up at Wolves, with Vitor Pereira having done a superb job since replacing Gary O’Neil.

At the weekend, Wolves beat Ipswich Town to go 12 points clear of the relegation zone, and it now looks certain Wanderers will be a Premier League club again in 2025/26.

Wolves were in a world of trouble only a few months ago.

But Vitor Pereira has steadied the ship, and currently has fans eating out of the palm of his hands.

‘First the points, then the pints’ has certainly endeared the Portuguese to the Molineux faithful, but mainly it’s the results that have seen Pereira’s popularity soar.

Without doubt, Pereira has improved many players in this Wolves squad.

And one man who has been thriving recently, is Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Strand Larsen came in for some criticism a few weeks ago.

But he has responded in the best way, scoring four goals in his last three games.

His efforts have helped Wolves catapult themselves away from the drop zone, and the Norwegian is looking a real handful at the moment.

For pundit Troy Deeney, Strand Larsen is making a case for being the most improved player in the Premier League.

Picking the player in his latest Team of the Week, he said (via BBC Sport): “A contender for most improved this season. He has developed into a top player, double figures for a team who are struggling.

“His confidence, touch and assist for the first goal were fantastic. Then a poacher’s goal, a really good finish, for the second.”

Munetsi a factor behind Strand Larsen improvement for Wolves

Deeney also said Strand Larsen channelled Zlatan Ibrahimovic against Ipswich, and it’s clear the former striker has been impressed by Wolves’ number nine.

Strand Larsen has certainly been getting better and better of late – and interestingly, he’s thrived in the absence of Matheus Cunha, which bodes well for next season.

Vitor Pereira claimed Strand Larsen has benefitted from playing with Marshall Munetsi, who joined Wolves in January from Reims.

Munetsi has played close to Strand Larsen, and Pereira believes him occupying markers helps the Wolves centre-forward.

Given those suggestions, it will now be very interesting to see if Pereira will bring Cunha back into the fold against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
