Just two points separate the two teams in the table.

A victory for Wanderers will see them leapfrog the Gunners in the table, and no doubt have supporters further believing European football is possible for next season.

There is a possibility that Gomes won’t start on Thursday.

Romain Saiss is available for selection again after his exploits with Morocco at AFCON.

Lage rates the 31-year-old very highly, and will no doubt be keen to restore him to the starting XI.

Gomes did well in his absence, and is thankful to Lage for giving him a chance.

The 23-year-old sang his manager’s praises ahead of the game, and thinks very highly of him.

He said (Wolves official): “When I arrived here, I saw in person what he really does with the players.

“In one week I felt different in myself and I already knew he had something special that works with players. He’s obsessed with doing good things in training and on the pitch.”

Toti Gomes the latest of many to sing Bruno Lage’s praises

Lage is clearly a very popular figure with the players.

A number of stars before Gomes have already said how they enjoy working under him, and have noted his work ethic.

It has certainly been a promising start to the Lage era at Wolves.

Potentially, the team could do really exciting things under him. But it’s really important for the board to back him in transfer windows.

He has been vocal about new faces and building a quality squad. He surely deserves some solid investment.
