Toti Gomes reacts to Vitor Pereira sacking and shares first feeling about Rob Edwards to Wolves

Wolves are set for a new dawn, with Rob Edwards coming in as Vitor Pereira’s successor – and club captain Toti Gomes has offered some thoughts about the big change at Molineux.

Wolves made a breakthrough in their search for a new manager over the weekend, after Gary O’Neil withdrew from the process last week.

Edwards became the club’s top target, but Wolves faced a challenge due to the fact he had only been with Middlesbrough for a matter of months.

After Edwards twice played down the Wolves speculation, there was a breakthrough on Saturday.

Edwards was stood down by Boro for their game against Birmingham City, and an agreement was reached.

David Ornstein then revealed that Wolves are paying around £2 million in compensation for Edwards, and that the announcement is set to arrive at the start of this week.

Wolves will now try to move on after their shocking start under Pereira, who has been spoken about by Toti Gomes.

Wolves have so much work to do to get out of this mess.

With just two points taken from 11 Premier League games, Wolves will need to create history to stay up, with no club having ever survived from this position before.

Edwards has to shore Wolves up defensively, but also find a way of getting more out of the attackers, who have been found wanting this season.

Pereira’s position had become untenable at Wolves, but Toti still had a positive word for the former manager.

He told the E&S: “It’s always a sad moment.

“He came in a tough moment last season too and he was a good addition for us. Not just him, but all his staff, they did what they could.

“I know they helped us a lot.

“Of course, this season things were not working the way we expected but sometimes football is like this and now we need a change.”

Like everyone associated with Wolves though, Toti is ready for a fresh start, saying of Edwards: “I don’t know him personally as a gaffer but hopefully him and his team can come and help us.

“I’m very excited to work with him, so let’s see what he can do to help us.”

Hwang Hee-chan ready for Rob Edwards era

Hwang Hee-chan is also relishing a new era at Wolves under Edwards.

The South Korean has been at the club since 2021 and has seen several managers come and go now, and he is optimistic that Edwards will be able to get Wolves back on the straight and narrow.

“Of course, we need more experience and someone who can make our team stronger,” he said.

“He understands the Premier League and the team philosophy. We always attack and defend together, this is our philosophy, and the fans always support us even when we lose 3-0.”

Hwang also assured fans that he will ‘give everything’ to help Wolves get out of trouble, recognising his status as a senior player in the squad.
