Toti Gomes praises three Wolves teammates for helping him to break through

Toti Gomes has showered praise on three players, following his breakthrough for the club last season.

The central defender was something of a surprise package last season for Wanderers.

The club moved to bring Toti back from his loan spell with Grasshoppers in January, amid a shortage of centre-back options.

Romain Saiss went to AFCON, and Willy Boly and Yerson Mosquera were both out injured.

So the decision was made to bring Toti back, and Bruno Lage handed him a surprise start against Southampton.

Many had expected Lage would turn to Fernando Marcal, Leander Dendoncker or Dion Sanderson.

But Toti got the nod, and impressed with the chances he was given.

In the end, he made five appearances for Wolves, and he has given himself a great chance of becoming a more established first-team player in 2022/23.

And Toti is extremely grateful to his teammates. He has praised three of his defensive colleagues giving special mention to £2 million man Conor Coady (Shropshire Star).

He told the Express & Star: “All of them have helped me, but more the guys in my position.

“Coady, Boly, Saiss have all helped me. Whenever I have any doubts I always speak with them to get some help.

“That’s why I’m comfortable on the pitch and in training, because of them.

“Since the first day they have been helping me a lot. Especially Coady, he’s been helping me a lot with speaking in training and in the games.”

Humble Gomes can become a top player for Wolves

Toti’s emergence for Wolves last season was exciting.

The youngster barely put a foot wrong across his five appearances for the club.

He has big potential and hopefully he can enjoy a Maximilian Kilman-style rise next season.

Toti seems to be a very hardworking and humble individual. And these traits will serve him very well at Molineux as he bids to become more established within the first-team.

Hopefully, Lage turns to him more often in 2022/23.
