Tony Roberts to remain in current role at Wolves

Goalkeeper coach Tony Roberts will supposedly be staying in his current role for Wolves at least for now.

Earlier today, the names of Julen Lopetegui’s coaching staff were revealed.

Pablo Sanz and Juan Vicente Peinado are both coming in as Lopetegui’s assistant coaches.

Edu Rubio will also be joining as a first-team coach, having previously worked at West Ham Woman.

And Fran Garagarza is also coming on board, but his role is unclear at the moment.

He was the sporting director at Eibar, but it has been reported he won’t be taking up that position at Molineux.

Journalist Liam Keen reports that a couple of fitness coaches are also set to join.

So it’s all change, and hopefully all these new faces will be a very good thing for the players in the dressing room.

Obviously at the moment, the team is under the management of Steve Davis and James Collins, with the former having taken more of a lead in recent weeks.

Tony Roberts has also been lending a hand, and some have been wondering if he will be sticking around following Lopetegui’s arrival.

Well, according to Keen, he will be continuing in his role as goalkeeper coach over the next few weeks initially. No imminent decision is being taken on him.

Roberts is apparently a very popular figure with the players, especially Jose Sa who obviously works with closely most days.

Tony Roberts sticking around makes sense for Wolves

It is a good thing that Roberts won’t be going anywhere.

He has obviously been with all the players for a while now, not just the goalkeepers.

He knows everyone in the squad, and is a great character. And he can definitely help with this transition period from Bruno Lage and all his coaches to Lopetegui and his.

Roberts will have a lot of information to pass on to the new head coach, and it makes total sense for him to be kept in the picture.
