Tommy Doyle shares what Gary O’Neil said to the Wolves players before signing his new contract

One year after first becoming Wolves manager, Gary O’Neil signed a new contract at Molineux as a reward for his great work at the club so far.

There had been talk of the Englishman agreeing an extension for weeks. But the speculation rather died down while pre-season was going on.

But O’Neil said a couple of weeks ago out in Miami that he did not foresee any issues regarding a potential extension, and last week Wolves confirmed a new deal for their head coach.

It was no less than he deserved.

There was potential for Wolves to really suffer after Julen Lopetegui walked out, especially given the club could not really spend too much money amid concerns over PSR.

One man O’Neil was able to bring in last summer though was Tommy Doyle, who has been speaking about his manager’s recent renewal.

Many Wolves fans feel the club is in safe hands with O’Neil.

He is only a year into the project, but the former Bournemouth man has totally changed the picture at Molineux, getting Wolves to play a more pleasing style of football and increasing the players’ fitness levels.

He has also overseen a real culture change at Molineux, and the dressing room is arguably now in the healthiest place it has been for years.

Doyle has given an interview with the club’s media team, and spoken about how happy he is at Wolves after joining from Manchester City on loan initially.

Part of the reason for his happiness is because of how O’Neil runs things, and Doyle has now shared what the manager told the players before signing his new contract.

He said: “The gaffer was very straight and honest with us and told us that he loves it here and wants to be here and wants to help us progress as individuals and as a team and take the club to the highest point possible, so I think it’s probably one of the most exciting places to be right now.”

O’Neil’s feelings about Wolves are crystal clear

It is extremely obvious by now that O’Neil loves being Wolves manager and is really excited about the project he is overseeing.

He has a great relationship with sporting director Matt Hobbs, and the players have all bought into him as well. Needless to say, the vast majority of fans adore him too.

O’Neil has it very good now following his harsh sacking by Bournemouth, and you get the sense he’s looking to repay the club’s faith for taking a chance on him. He has always given the impression that he is very grateful for his position.

Him signing a new deal shows that he is fully committed to the cause, and hopefully he can achieve special things while he is here.
