Tommy Doyle has completed a loan transfer to Birmingham City just one season after his permanent move to Wolves.
The midfielder will spend the 2025/26 campaign with the Blues, where he’ll be desperate to make a name for himself.
It’s been a tough time for the 23-year-old, as since Vitor Pereira arrived at Molineux, the Englishman’s game time has reduced.
Pereira has made it clear that he has no use for Doyle in his current Wolves squad, leaving the 2024 signing open to make the move to St Andrew’s.

Tommy Doyle lays out success marker for Birmingham City loan
Several Championship clubs were interested in Doyle, but it was Birmingham City who got the deal over the line.
It’s an exciting time for the midfielder, who is eyeing a very specific goal at St Andrew’s over the next year of action.
“I think everyone wants to be a Premier League footballer,” Doyle said, when asked about City’s hopes for promotion, via Birmingham City’s official website.
“When I was at Wolves, I played around 50 games in the Premier League, but of course, if it’s not consistent, you want to keep striving for more.
“Hopefully, I can come here, play a lot of games, and the main goal is to take this club to the Premier League. So, if we can achieve that, then that would be incredible.”
City finished first in League One by 19 points last season and hope to make a similar impact in the second tier, something Doyle is already targeting.
The most important thing for the Wolves loanee, however, is to secure consistent game time after a turbulent time in the West Midlands following his transfer from Manchester City.
Doyle needs minutes to thrive at Birmingham City
There was speculation that Doyle’s loan would include a £10m option to buy, though nothing has been communicated on the matter since the midfielder’s transfer was announced.
After an unsettling year of stop-start action, the Englishman has the chance to show his worth consistently, just as he did during a phenomenal 2022/23 loan spell with Sheffield United.
Season | Appearances | Starts | Minutes per game | Minutes played |
2024/25 | 24 | 3 | 22 | 521 |
2023/24 | 26 | 11 | 48 | 1246 |
As seen above, Doyle’s game time has been sporadic at Wolves, both before and after Pereira’s arrival.
The talented player has the chance to show the Blues what he can do, with the Wolves loanee already aiming incredibly high.
