Tommy Doyle has Birmingham fans purring already after most recent pre-season outing

It is a big season ahead for Tommy Doyle, after he struggled for minutes at Wolves in 2024/25.

After turning his loan move to Molineux permanently, Tommy Doyle had been hoping to kick on.

But under Gary O’Neil opportunities were few and far between as the team struggled. Mario Lemina’s form was particularly poor, but Doyle still couldn’t get in over him.

After O’Neil left the club in December, he might have been hoping for a fresh start under Vitor Pereira.

But his situation didn’t really change, with Pereira much more enamoured with the profiles of Andre, Joao Gomes, Marshall Munetsi and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

Towards the end of the season there was a growing feeling that he could move on, and that is what happened.

Doyle sealed a loan move to Birmingham for the upcoming season, and it will be a chance for him to get back on track.

The Championship is a league he knows well, and Wolves are expecting him to fare well with Birmingham, who have had a very productive summer so far.

Doyle was in action for Blues at the weekend, and many fans had the same feeling about the playmaker.

Doyle has been very unfortunate at Wolves.

He has been stuck behind two outstanding midfielders in Andre and Gomes, which meant he couldn’t play anywhere near as much as he would have liked.

We saw him make some good contributions in a Wolves shirt, but it wouldn’t have been right for him to stick around and mainly be a substitute.

He is Birmingham’s gain, and Doyle – who was always wanted by Sunderland and Wrexham – is already making an impression.

Doyle got minutes against Sevilla earlier this month, and most recently featured for Birmingham against Port Vale at the weekend, and left fans purring with a confident display.

@Chapman_bcfc: “Tommy Doyle just oozes class doesn’t he, makes everything look easy. Can pick out a pass, the way he just turns with the ball and plays it instantly straight into anyone’s feet. What a player.”

@terrycourt123 (via YouTube): “I think he will be the main man, his experience will be key to our success this season.”

@Jackie.32 (via YouTube): “I like him. Seems like a good character.”

@SpindlerRoy: “Tommy Doyle, that is the tweet. Absolute baller, geezer is a joke 🔥🔥🔥”

@alexedicken: “Tommy Doyle was definitely the stand-out today. He looks like he could be the player to unlock stubborn defences.”

@dani_scragg: “Back from Vale. Tommy Doyle is a player and a half.”

Doyle will smash it at Birmingham

Doyle has admitted he didn’t enjoy his football at Wolves last season due to hardly playing, which is completely understandable.

No player wants to warm the bench, but for Doyle it must have been extra frustrating, knowing he had good qualities to offer but still wasn’t getting the nod.

He’ll do well at Birmingham. He knows how the Championship is, and there is also the notion of him making up for lost time.

Doyle is a great character and professional, and will be determined to impress during this loan spell.

And that is good news for Birmingham, as they seek to potentially challenge for a second successive promotion.
