Tolu Arokodare suggests there were two silver linings in Wolves’ defeat to Chelsea

Wolves fans had little to cheer about after a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at Molineux, but Tolu Arokodare found a couple of silver linings.

The match against Chelsea was another tough pill to swallow for Wolves supporters.

A Cole Palmer hat-trick, including two penalties, put the game beyond reach for Wolves before the half-time whistle.

Tolu Arokodare managed to pull one back, scoring his second Premier League goal. But it was far too little, too late for a team whose top-flight status will soon be no more.

The latest defeat has left Wolves 18 points from safety, and with just 13 games left to play, the club’s fate really does look sealed.

Despite the terrible collective performance and bleak outlook overall, Arokodare did fid a couple of positives from the latest defeat.

Arokodare was full of praise for Angel Gomes and Adam Armstrong, who both made their debuts for the club after joining in January.

Gomes played alongside Joao Gomes in midfield in the absence of Andre, while Armstrong supported Arokodare.

And the Nigerian striker was effusive in his praise for Gomes and Armstrong, saying (via E&S): “I think we all saw them today, they were both exceptional.

“I’m very, very happy for them on their debuts for the team, how they played, how they performed.”

Debutants make their mark

Gomes and Armstrong were thrown into the deep end against Chelsea, but both made good impressions.

Gomes was busy and bright throughout the match, showing touches of class when he got on the ball.

Armstrong, meanwhile, showed aggression and linked up play effectively. He also got the assist for Arokodare’s goal, flicking on Mateus Mane’s corner.

Rob Edwards also had high praise for the duo, noting their bravery and quality.

He said (via Wolves official): “Angel got on the ball and looked to try and make things happen. Adam was incredibly hard working, linked it really well, looked aggressive at the right times. Very, very pleased – I thought they were both a big plus for us.”

It was a promising start for both players, and Wolves need Gomes and Armstrong to keep impressing to inspire their teammates.

It is too late for survival, but there is a way to go out and that is to go out fighting.
