Tolu Arokodare now has to break 10-year curse after picking his Wolves shirt number

Wolves have a new striker in Belgian Pro League top scorer Tolu Arokodare, who has now chosen his new shirt number.

The sole arrival of deadline day, Tolu Arokodare, was a welcome addition at Wolves.

He offers much-needed support to Jorgen Strand Larsen, and judging by his goal record in Belgium, he should be able to have a similar impact at Molineux.

Arokodare has chosen the number 14 as his shirt number, and his first challenge will be to do something no Wolves player has done in over a decade.

No one has scored in Tolu Arokodare’s number 14 jersey in over 10 years at Wolves

The last player to don number 14 for Wolves and score was Lee Evans, doing so during a 2014/15 Championship game.

Since then, a few players have worn it. Yerson Mosquera was one, but he’s switched to 15 to start this season.

Michal Zyro and Noha Lemina both failed to find the net during their stints with the jersey.

Arokodare isn’t the first Nigerian forward to make this choice either, with Bright Enobakhare wearing 14 in the 2018/19 season for Wolves.

The new striker will want to put that streak to its end sooner rather than later.

Tolu Arokodare might be needed from the start amid Jorgen Strand Larsen injury struggles

Strand Larsen returned from international duty due to injury, raising concerns over his availability to face Newcastle after the break.

Strand Larsen at St James’ Park would be an interesting watch after all that’s happened, but if this niggle Vitor Pereira mentioned is actually a more serious issue, it could be Arokodare who leads the line.

The point of bringing in another striker is to cover for such eventualities.

If he is starting in just over a week’s time, it would be a fitting first Premier League game against the likes of Dan Burn and Fabian Schar. From the looks of it, physicality won’t be an issue for the 6’6″ striker.
