‘They’re going to stand out’: Matheus Cunha thinks two Wolves players will shine this season

Wolves start their Premier League campaign tomorrow with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.

It has been a chaotic past week for Wanderers.

Julen Lopetegui left the club after growing tired of the club’s financial situation and moving of the goalposts.

Gary O’Neil has come in, and made a good first impression.

Wolves released footage of O’Neil’s first training session, and it certainly looked intense.

O’Neil then spoke well at his first press conference on Friday.

It is likely going to be a wild season for Wolves.

There has been so much change.

But there is still a very talented bunch of players at the club – and forward Matheus Cunha reckons two in particular will have really good seasons.

He has spoken about his time at Wolves so far, and how happy he has been at the club since arriving from Atletico Madrid.

Wolves fans are really hoping he will be able to chip in with some goals this season, and really start to justify his price tag.

But he’s picked out a couple of his teammates he thinks will be really good in 2023/24.

And it’s two players he has a particularly close bond with.

He said: “They are two great friends. Matheus Nunes has helped me a lot since I arrived. We are always together on a daily basis. The three of us helped each other a lot. They are players with a very great technical quality. They’re going to stand out even more (this season).”

Cunha could be spot on

With Wolves now in a post-Ruben Neves era, other players will now come to the fore at Molineux.

And midfielders Gomes and Nunes could both really do well.

We saw last season, in the games against Chelsea and Brentford when Neves is suspended, how brilliant the duo can be.

It will be especially interesting to watch Nunes this season.

He underwhelmed in his first term at Molineux. But it could now be his time to really shine with Neves no longer in the picture.

Arguably, he is Wolves’ best player on paper now. It would be absolutely brilliant if he could show some more consistency this time around.
