‘They are’: Bruno Fernandes shares his honest feelings about Wolves now having faced them

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has acknowledged that Wolves are a good team following last night’s clash at Old Trafford.

Wolves somehow came away empty-handed.

Following a really turbulent past week, Wanderers rocked up in Manchester with many people not giving them a prayer.

But there was no hangover from Julen Lopetegui leaving so close to the new season.

In fact, the players looked totally inspired playing under Gary O’Neil.

Wolves played the best they’ve played in months, and were absolutely robbed of at least a point.

After the game, United skipper Fernandes spoke about Wolves…

Fernandes found things difficult last night.

The United midfield really came in for criticism, with him Mason Mount and Casemiro getting completely overrun at times.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Fernandes admitted (quoted by manutd.com): “They are a good team. We didn’t know what to expect from their side because they had a change of manager, it was about adapting on the pitch and understanding what we had to do.

“The manager gave us the options on the way to press, I think we did well. We should have been a little bit more aggressive sometimes and we could have gone to the goal in situations.

“On the ball, we were a little bit rushed sometimes, we could have kept a little bit more of the ball and had better timing on the counters because we are really dangerous at doing that. It wasn’t the perfect game, but we won.”

The pressing from Wolves was excellent, with Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes both winning the ball back countless times for the visitors.

Matheus Nunes was also very difficult to contain when he came inside from the left.

Wolves sent a message to the rest of the league last night

Lots of people have been looking at the situation at Wolves and predicting the club could be in real trouble this season.

It’s possible the campaign could be long and difficult.

But last night’s performance was a real statement.

Those players looked hungry, and were seriously unlucky to leave Old Trafford with nothing.

It is now about building on the performance and just becoming that bit more clinical.
