There’s a recurring theme in Rob Edwards’ first five games as Wolves manager, it’s good and bad

Rob Edwards remains without a win since becoming Wolves manager, and there has been a common theme in his first five matches.

It has been a tough start for Rob Edwards, and realistically it was never going to be easy.

He has walked into a house on fire, with Wolves’ squad the weakest it has been in years. Many actually now believe it is one of the worst Premier League squads assembled, and the Derby County points record looks an uncomfortable possibility.

Rob Edwards was adamant about taking the Wolves job when the club came calling

Wolves fans, was Edwards brave or foolish to take the job? 🤔

“I will not lie, it has been an aim of mine since I got the under 18s job. It is something I’ve always wanted to do.”

“The opportunity came along and it’s something I wanted to do. Sometimes in life you’ve got to look after you. It was difficult, but this place pulled me in.”

Edwards has been tasked with cleaning up the mess made by Vitor Pereira, Domenico Teti and Fosun, and he will be backed for the long term.

So far, Edwards has lost all five of his games in charge.

But it has been interesting to note one common pattern in these matches Edwards has taken.

The season has been a disaster, and sadly, it is looking like it will end in Wolves slipping out of the top-flight.

Edwards has struggled since he came in. But fans, by and large, are ready to back him – because they know there’s little point getting on his back when the problems run way deeper than who is in the dugout.

But one thing that can be said for Edwards so far is that he has at least kept Wolves competitive.

In each of the five games Edwards has taken so far, Wolves have been level-pegging with their opponent at half-time.

This at least shows that Wolves are putting themselves in a position to go and take something from the game.

In the early weeks of the season, quite often Wolves would be losing at half-time and in some instances, be dead and buried.

In the 11 Premier League games prior to Edwards’ arrival, Wolves had gone in at half-time in a losing position on eight occasions.

Good and bad for Edwards

Of course, despite Wolves still being ‘in’ games at the break, Edwards has lost all five of the games he has taken so far.

That means Wolves are not capitalising on actually still being in games at the halfway point.

The biggest positive so far about Rob Edwards since he became Wolves manager is _______________

But it is at least slightly positive in that, Wolves are keeping themselves in contests for longer, compared to the start of the season. There is more hope now.

It is now clearly about kicking on after that half-time break. The players need to take heart from this, and believe that they can go on and win.
