Steve Bull has lavished praise on Hwang Hee-chan for becoming so key for Wolves, believing Gary O’Neil has found his very best position.

The South Korean has been in wonderful form in 2023/24.

Steve Bull raves over Hwang Hee-chan after going from squad player to key man at Wolves

There was a little bit of talk about Hwang in the summer.

The 27-year-old was linked with an exit from the club, with plenty of other teams showing interest.

He ended up staying put, and that was a huge relief.

Because Hwang has been superb.

Bull has showered praise on Hwang for the way he has now established himself as a top player at Molineux. And he reckons him playing the position he currently is – off the left and coming into the box – has helped him to thrive.

He said (Express & Star): “At the end of last season and start of this season, Hwang hasn’t been playing in the right position, but he’s now playing in the right position and is playing with a smile on his face.

“When you’re a player, you know where you’re best suited and I think the manager has now found Hwang’s position where he’s comfortable and most threatening.

“He’s playing freely, scoring goals and creating goals. He’s come into his own.

“There were doubts in the summer over where Hwang would fit in but he’s in incredible form right now.”

Hwang thriving under O’Neil

Hwang has been appreciating by every manager since he came to the club.

But the early signs of him under O’Neil are really, really good.

O’Neil recently raved about Hwang for his tactical understanding and awareness, branding him ‘excellent’. And Hwang has also praised O’Neil.

They clearly work well together and it’s exciting to think about the level Hwang could reach this season.

The only thing with him is staying fit. If he can do that, then he will surely continue to thrive.
