Theo Walcott makes Wolves survival prediction after 2-1 defeat to Liverpool amid ‘flat’ verdict

Wolves remain bottom of the Premier League table after losing to Liverpool – and Theo Walcott has made a new prediction about Gary O’Neil’s side after the latest loss.

Wolves fell short at Molineux, losing 2-1 to the Reds.

Ibrahima Konate put Liverpool in front just before half-time with a header from a Diogo Jota cross.

Rayan Ait-Nouri got Wolves back on level terms, but Liverpool went back in front almost immediately. Nelson Semedo dragged Jota to the ground, and Mo Salah scored the resulting penalty.

Fans voiced their frustrations late on as Wolves showed a lack of urgency, trying to play around Liverpool from the back – which was something that also angered Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

It’s now five defeats and one draw from the first six games, and former Premier League winger Theo Walcott has given his thoughts about Wolves on Match of the Day.

Fans are growing increasingly concerned after seeing their side take just one point from the first six games.

People did not expect too much from Wolves when the fixture list was released. It was always going to be a difficult start.

But the issue for a lot of people has been that Wolves have actually been competitive, and put themselves in positions to take points.

So it has been very frustrating to watch Wolves not close games out, and fail to capitalise on good periods in games.

Last night on Match of the Day, Theo Walcott gave his verdict on Wolves – but he feels the club should still just about be OK this season.

He said: “They have had tough opposition, but it just felt a bit flat towards the end there I felt. They are going to need the support. There has been sickness in the week as well.

“It’s one of those where I don’t think there’s going to be a problem, but there are plenty of games ahead still.”

Wolves need a plan B

Wolves need to start trying different things on the pitch, especially when chasing games.

There has been a big emphasis on playing possession football, playing out from the back and trying to control games.

This can be effective, but not all of the time. Trying to do it against teams like Liverpool, for example, is just asking for trouble.

O’Neil needs to look at finding different approaches.

Wolves arguably don’t use Jorgen Strand Larsen enough. He is an outlet, so Wolves ought to consider going long a bit more often.
