Theo Walcott adamant about Wolves’ fate this season as Rob Edwards era set to commence

It’s been an abysmal season for Wolves, and as the club prepare to announce Rob Edwards as their new manager, Theo Walcott has predicted the Old Gold’s fate.

On Saturday, Wolves lost their latest Premier League game against Chelsea.

Fans didn’t have too much hope of their managerless team getting anything out of the game. And it proved to be relatively easy in the end for Chelsea.

Wolves defended well for 50 minutes of the game, but then a lapse saw Malo Gusto open the scoring.

Joao Pedro and former Wolves winger Pedro Neto, who annoyed Wolves fans with his celebration, also scored.

The club will now begin a new era, with Rob Edwards to be announced this week, and his mission will be crystal clear: keep Wolves in the Premier League.

Theo Walcott says Premier League survival will be ‘too difficult’ for Wolves

Wolves were likely always going to be in for a tough season, given how many players left the club.

But few really expected the dismal campaign we have seen, and a haul of just two points from 11 games.

Wolves have been woeful, and Edwards has a huge job on his hands to turn things around.

For pundit Theo Walcott, it is simply too little, too late for a safety mission, as he said on Match of the Day last night: “I think it’ll be too difficult. Very difficult as well when a new manager comes in with new ideas. Players can always find that difficult to adapt.

“I think it’s a big ask for Wolves to now stay in this league. I think it’s too much for them now.”

Wolves need a miracle to survive in the Premier League

A lot of Wolves fans actually share Walcott’s view that relegation is already inevitable.

Edwards could turn out to be a decent appointment in the longer term, but he has so many things to fix when he comes in, it really would be a miracle if he pulled off a great escape.

Wolves are already starting to get cut adrift.

There may be plenty of games left, but Wolves have just shown this season that they don’t have the quality, leadership of gamechangers to compete.
