The two Wolves players who looked ‘absolute class’ in Wolves’ first pre-season training session

Two fringe players were said to have looked ‘absolute class’ on Wolves’ first day of pre-season training.

Preparations for the 2023/24 season are now underway, with 29 players having flown out to Marbella for warm weather training.

The players who were not involved with international tournaments are being put through their paces, and Gary O’Neil is looking to see who can make a big impression.

He will be paying particularly close attention to those players who were either on the fringes at Molineux last season, or out on loan.

Max Kilman has been sold, and it is possible that Pedro Neto could also be departing later in this window.

So given that, it is encouraging that two potential replacements for them looked really good yesterday.

With Kilman having been sold, there has naturally been a lot of talk about a replacement for the captain.

It would be very surprising if the club didn’t sign anyone. But one man who Kilman’s sale might create an opening for is Yerson Mosquera.

Mosquera spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal, and really impressed out in Spain. This followed a productive spell with FC Cincinnati.

If Neto goes, then it could be that there will be a place in the squad for Chiquinho.

The 24-year-old spent last season with Farmalicao, and like with Mosquera, the purpose of the move was to get him back playing again after a serious injury.

Journalist Nathan Judah is out in Marbella and watching the team in pre-season, and he gave an encouraging verdict about the duo.

He wrote on X: “It’s early days but Mosquera & Chiquinho look absolute class Would love to see both be given a real chance this season.”

Both players have been linked with an exit

This is encouraging to hear, because Wolves fans were really excited about both of these players shortly after they had first signed.

Chiquinho looked electric after joining the club in January 2022. It was such a shame he could not kick on because of a serious knee injury.

Mosquera also looked really handy in pre-season shortly after joining in the summer of 2021.

As Judah says, it would be fantastic to see the duo reintegrated by Gary O’Neil, but both players may well yet be sold.

At the moment, Sporting CP have interest in Chiquinho and the Portuguese giants are preparing to bid for him. Mosquera is wanted back by Villarreal following his great stint on loan, with the Spanish club said to be working overtime to try and re-sign him.
