The surprise ace who’s ‘like a captain’ now showing his true importance to Wolves

Pablo Sarabia has hailed Wolves’ match-winner Mario Lemina against Tottenham Hotspur, suggesting he is like a captain without the armband.

The Spaniard made headlines yesterday after he scored a stunning goal in a dramatic 2-1 win over the north London giants.

There were feelings of despair last weekend following the 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United. This weekend, it is the exact opposite, with Wolves enjoying a late comeback to take all three points.

Spurs had to put out a depleted side, but it was still a fantastic performance from Wolves who were full value for the win.

It was Mario Lemina – described by Jermaine Jenas as ‘absolutely excellent’ on Match of the Day – who got the winner in the 97th minute, and Pablo Sarabia hailed the 30-year-old after the game…

Many Wolves fans adore Lemina for the way he plays.

The midfielder is a real warrior and just brings so much energy and intensity to the team. But he’s also good technically.

Perhaps one of the most underrated things about Lemina though is his leadership. You can see he is constantly barking orders at his teammates in games and by many accounts, including from journalist Liam Keen earlier this year, he is a really big personality in the dressing room as has had a huge impact behind the scenes.

Sarabia spoke a bit about Lemina’s leadership after yesterday’s win, suggesting he’s like a captain without the armband.

He said (via Wolves official): “He’s very important for us. He’s incredible, a very strong mentality, strong legs, and he’s very important for us. He’s like a captain. I tried to assist, and I tried to pass, and Mario knows me, and after he scored.”

Lemina one of the most important signings Wolves have made in years

There probably weren’t too many Wolves fans who thought Lemina would become as crucial to the team as he is when he first signed.

Wolves picked him up for about £10 million and it was seen as a decent bit of business. But now that transfer deal looks like one of the best Wolves have done in years.

Lemina has brought steel and intensity to the Wolves midfield. But with him, it is not just about that.

Wolves were a bit of a soft touch before he came. The squad had also lost a lot of leaders.

He’s come in and been one right off the bat. He’s taken responsibility and is exactly the kind of player that Wolves fans can get behind.

Given Max Kilman is not necessarily a vocal captain – although he is still a great leader – it is very important to have someone like Lemina in the side.
