Wolves take on Tottenham Hotspur today in the Premier League – and it looks as though Matheus Cunha will again be available.
Before Christmas Cunha was charged by the FA following his antics after the defeat to Ipswich Town.
The Brazilian was charged with misconduct and is expecting a ban.
But he hasn’t yet been hit with one, much to the delight of Wolves fans.
In the two games since he was charged, Cunha has made decisive contributions for Wolves against Leicester and Manchester United.
At this point, it’s clear what a huge player he is for Wolves – and one statistic has further underlined his status as a game-changer for the team.
Wolves star Matheus Cunha is the Premier League’s biggest overperformer

Cunha is enjoying another fantastic season for Wolves.
The Brazilian has scored 10 goals so far, and has been keeping Wanderers within reach of safety. Had it not been for his contributions, Wolves could be somewhat cut adrift at this point.
We’ve seen moments of true brilliance from Cunha.
In the last game, Cunha scored directly from a corner against Manchester United, and the player later admitted that he was indeed shooting.
Players don’t really have a right to score from a corner, but seemingly nothing is out of the question for Cunha.
It was an extremely difficult chance, but Cunha converted. And after the game, The Guardian shared a very impressive statistic.
They report that Cunha is currently the biggest overperformer in the Premier League right now, having overperformed his expected goal haul by 6.02. He should have scored just four goals, based on the quality of chances he’s had, but has hit 10.
Cunha will be greatly missed by Wolves
When Cunha is finally hit with this ban, he will be greatly missed by Wolves.
This clearly shows that he is capable of providing moments of magic, and conjuring things up out of nothing.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
17 | 18 | 4 | 3 | 11 | 29 | 40 | -11 | 15 |
That is truly invaluable, but also rather unsustainable – Wolves cannot spend the rest of the season relying on Cunha to produce brilliance.
But one gets the sense that Vitor Pereira won’t let that happen.
Wolves looked a different outfit under the Portuguese, and hopefully, others can really step up when Cunha is unavailable.
