The starting XI Wolves should go with vs Arsenal amid injury worries

Wolves take on Arsenal tonight in the Premier League and the Old Gold are looking to put a big dent in the Gunners’ title hopes.

It’s been an awful season for Wolves, but there have been some glimpses of resilience, most recently with a hard-fought draw against Nottingham Forest and a victory over Grimsby Town in the FA Cup in tough conditions.

Tonight Arsenal come to Molineux and it will be a significant test for Wolves.

That said, Arsenal have just dropped points against Brentford, suggesting they are potentially feeling the pressure from Manchester City.

Here’s an XI Rob Edwards should consider going with for tonight’s clash with Mikel Arteta’s side.

Wolves have some injury woes heading into tonight’s game. Hwang Hee-Chan is ruled out with a calf injury, while Toti Gomes remains unavailable due to a long-term hamstring issue.

Edwards also admitted that some players were ‘feeling it’ after the win over Grimsby, but stopped short of naming names.

Assuming that the following players are fit to play, then perhaps this is the side Edwards should go with.

Jose Sa shone in goal against Nottingham Forest and should be recalled after Sam Johnstone played against Grimsby.

At the back, the trio of Ladislav Krejci, Santiago Bueno and Yerson Mosquera need not be disrupted after back-to-back clean sheets.

Hugo Bueno and Rodrigo Gomes should be restored as wing-backs after both were unused substitutes against Grimsby.

In midfield, Joao Gomes and Angel Gomes should feature, with Angel being rested against Grimsby. He’ll be fresher than Andre.

Just ahead of them, Mateus Mane, who has played a lot lately, should still start, with Tolu Arokodare and Adam Armstrong to again feature as a pair up top.

Wolves XI: Sa/Mosquera, S.Bueno, Krejci/R.Gomes, J.Gomes, A.Gomes, H.Bueno/Mane/Arokodare, Armstrong.

An uphill battle for Wolves

Wolves’ recent performances have shown signs of improvement, but the challenge of facing the league leaders is a different prospect.

Wolves’ last Premier League win against Arsenal at home came in February 2021, a result they will hope to replicate tonight despite the odds.

There’s no overstating the size of the challenge, but with the support of the Molineux faithful and a determined squad, the players will look to defy expectations.

There is big pressure on Arsenal this evening to pull away from City. So that may well play into Wolves’ hands a bit.

And if there are signs of nerves for the visitors, Wolves have got to pounce.
