The Scott Parker statistic that gives Wolves a reason for hope ahead of Burnley clash

Wolves must beat Burnley on Sunday to stand a chance of crawling out of the relegation zone, and a Scott Parker statistic could provide some optimism.

Burnley and Wolves are both primed to battle it out at the bottom of the Premier League, but the Clarets have the early advantage.

Scott Parker has managed to do something that Vitor Pereira has failed to do so far, and that is win a game, and his side has managed to do so twice.

They are five points clear of the Old Gold, and that has left Pereira’s future in doubt.

However, Scott Parker seemingly does not have a great time playing Wolves, and that could provide some much-needed hope for fans ahead of the game.

Scott Parker has faced Wolves on three separate occasions as a Premier League manager, and his history against the Old Gold suggests a positive result on Sunday could be likely.

The Burnley manager has never picked up a single point against Wolves when facing them in the league, and each fixture has ended in a 1-0 win for the Wanderers.

All three games came during his spell at Fulham during a time when he was looking to stave off relegation with the Cottagers.

A similar scenario to his Burnley team now.

Wolves 1-0 Fulham – 4th October 2020
Fulham 0-1 Wolves – 9th April 2021

Just last season, Burnley and Parker also failed to beat Wolves, with much of that starting XI no longer at the Old Gold, highlighting a key issue about the club’s squad building.

Wolves’ current struggles in front of goal suggest that there will not be many goals on Sunday, and a repeat of history is not out of the question.

However, their opponents have found the net much more than Vitor Pereira’s side, so they will still need to be defensively resilient despite past results.

Jaidon Anthony must be kept quiet

Wolves simply have to win against Burnley, and keeping Jaidon Anthony quiet will be a key battle.

Hugo Bueno is predicted to start for Wolves, and the Spaniard will need to be at the top of his game against the English winger.

Anthony has four goals this season and is one of the leading players in the Premier League this season for goal contributions with five.

He will no doubt cause the Old Gold a huge threat, and a standout performance from Hugo Bueno could be required.

Bueno has been one of the few players who have impressed so far, so that should not be a struggle for the defender.
