Wolves had a really busy summer transfer window. The Old Gold made eight new signings under Gary O’Neil.
Although O’Neil was replaced by Vitor Pereira, the Wolves first team remains mostly as it was at the start of the season, including three more January additions.
The likes of Andre, Rodrigo Gomes and Pedro Lima have proven to be exciting signings, but others have flattered to deceive.

Why Wolves signed Carlos Forbs
Despite Wolves pursuing him for several months, Carlos Forbs has been a disappointment since arriving at Molineux.
The 20-year-old joined on a season-long loan, but after starting just one Premier League game all season, has barely featured.
Vitor Pereira recently admitted Forbs is struggling to adapt to Wolves’ tactics and style of play.
- 3-5-2 system
- High flying wing-backs
- Box-to-box midfielders
Earlier expectations were very different for the Ajax loanee though. According to the Express and Star’s Liam Keen, sporting director Matt Hobbs viewed Forbs as the ideal replacement for Pedro Neto.
“This is why Carlos Forbs was signed really late in the summer window because they hadn’t adequately replaced Pedro Neto and had a player of that kind of ability,” he said on the E&S Wolves podcast in response to Wolves not having enough quick players capable of beating their man.
“Of course, his signing hasn’t worked out and he hasn’t hit the level he needed to.”
Ajax tried to recall Forbs in January but Wolves said no due to not having a replacement. Nevertheless, his signing not working out is an understatement.
Aged like milk
Forbs’ transfer carried a lot of promise but has failed to meet expectations. Not only has he struggled, but he is as far away from making the same kind of impact as Neto as humanly possible.
The fact that the Wolves hierarchy hoped he could seamlessly replace the now-Chelsea winger proves just how poor some of the decision-making has been.
Although Forbs could make an appearance between now and the end of the season, there is absolutely no chance Pereira will push to sign him permanently.
The young winger has made just 10 appearances, in all competitions, for Wolves, and has failed to score or assist in every single one.
