The Premier League club which Sergio Conceicao is currently leaning towards amid Wolves links

Wolves remain in the market for a new manager, although Gary O’Neil has also been give a show of faith.

Wanderers were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United in the latest Premier League fixture on Monday, and many felt that would be the end for O’Neil.

He had lost games against Bournemouth and Everton, and the feeling was that losing ‘El Sackico’ would be the end.

But O’Neil is set to be given the game against Ipswich Town, in a move that has baffled many.

This is despite the club having spoke to a number of potential successors to replace O’Neil.

It was claimed that Sergio Conceicao was one of five managers Wolves sounded out to replace O’Neil – and a new report has suggested which club he is currently leaning towards with several interested.

Conceicao is currently out of work and has been so since leaving FC Porto at the end of last season.

The Portuguese tactician is a three-time Primeira Liga winner, both as a player and as a manager.

He’s someone Wolves have looked into bringing to Molineux, but seemingly, it’d be an uphill battle to get him.

It’s been reported by Rudy Galetti via TEAMtalk that while Conceicao is very keen to manage in the Premier League, he actually leaning towards West Ham at the moment, where Julen Lopetegui is still under big pressure.

Perhaps this is one reason why Wolves are choosing to stick with O’Neil for the time being.

It’s stated Conceicao is among the ‘most appreciated names’ by Molineux officials.

A shame for Wolves

So it looks like barring a big change of heart, Conceicao will not be pitch up at Wolves to try and pull the club away from the relegation zone.

This update probably comes as no real surprise following the report that O’Neil is remaining in charge.

Sergio Conceicao at FC Porto (2017-2024)
Games managed – 368
Wins – 265
Draws – 48
Losses – 55
Goals scored – 803
Goals conceded – 317

It seems clear at this point that no one really wants the Wolves job at this moment in time, potentially because of the scale of the job and due to the way Fosun runs the club.

Conceicao could be a good appointment by Wolves, but it’s understandable he would perhaps not be interested in taking over from O’Neil right now.

He has been used to winning titles with Porto and has never before experienced trying to keep a club safe from relegation – it would definitely be a big risk for him personally.
