The one word Vitor Pereira said when asked the secret to his early success at Wolves

Wolves beat Manchester United at Molineux to move out of the relegation zone in Vitor Pereira’s second game.

Pereira got the perfect Molineux welcome as the Portuguese led his squad to a second consecutive win.

Wolves beat Man United 2-0 in a Boxing Day showdown in the West Midlands, seeing Matheus Cunha dominate Ruben Amorim’s side.

Pereira achieved an almost 50-year feat at Wolves by recording another three points, becoming the first manager to win his first two top-flight matches since 1977.

Vitor Pereira explains why his Wolves squad have responded so well

It’s been a record-breaking start to life at Wolves for the new manager, as Pereira made club history against Leicester City.

In a dream start for the Portuguese, the Old Gold have moved out of the relegation zone for the first time since match week 12.

After Wolves sacked Gary O’Neil following the club’s late defeat at home to Ipswich Town, Pereira arrived and instantly turned things around.

Following Wolves’ win over United, Pereira was asked by a reporter on BBC Match of the Day why he believes his squad have responded so quickly, and how he approached his players.

The boss needed only one word to open his answer, responding, “Confidence.”

Pereira then went on to emphasise the importance of installing a new level of confidence in the Wolves squad.

“A man with confidence can do a lot of good things. In this moment, I think the team is happy, the energy is positive, the players are quality.”

It’s been a rapid turnaround at Molineux, with the Old Gold now on a run that they will not want to see end anytime soon.

Pereira has earned the trust of his players

Pereira fulfilled a dream to manage in the Premier League, something that has boosted the squad as every member of the team has the same desire.

Nelson Semedo spoke highly of Pereira after the win over Leicester, with Cunha the latest to applaud the boss.

The Brazilian was asked about the manager’s impact after beating United, to which he mentioned the happiness the Portuguese has installed.

“When someone new comes in, they bring a lot of things, and with Vitor it’s no different. He’s been 18 years with the dream to come and manage a team in the Premier League,” Cunha said to Wolves’ official website

“We feel happy about this kind of things, because we can feel the energy, how they push us to be better. We can show everyone that we are all together.”

Wolves are far from being safe from a relegation battle however, in terms of fast-starts, Pereira’s early impact couldn’t be much better.
