The new percentage chance Wolves have of being relegated with eight Premier League games to go

Wolves secured a huge win in the Premier League on Tuesday night, beating West Ham United at Molineux.

Jorgen Strand Larsen was on target for the third time in just games, scoring in the first-half at Molineux in the 1-0 win.

Vitor Pereira’s side enjoyed some good possession in the first-half.

But it was a different game in the second, with West Ham being much more competitive.

But thankfully Wolves were able to see the game out, and hold on for three big points – and the significance of the result was clear at the end, as Wolves players mobbed Pereira on the full-time whistle.

Wolves are in a healthy position, and Opta data has now shared the new percentage chance of the club getting relegated with eight games to go.

The importance of being West Ham cannot be overstated.

Wolves fans may have taken a draw, but there was always a chance that Ipswich Town could spring a surprise against Bournemouth the day after.

And that came to pass, with Ipswich beating the Cherries 2-1 last night.

That has reduced the gap back down to nine points, placing more emphasis on Saturday’s game between Wolves and Ipswich.

But new Opta data – via The Analyst – reveals there is still an extremely slim chance of Wolves being relegated from this point.

With nine games to go, Wolves apparently have just a 0.76% chance of being relegated. Ipswich’s chance is set at 99.26%. Leicester City’s is 99.6%

And Wolves are also given an expected final points tally of 38.6.

Wolves simply must not lose to Ipswich

Some were left slightly concerned by Ipswich beating Bournemouth to reduce the gap to nine points again.

But Wolves are still in a fantastic position. Some don’t feel there will be any issues at all. Alan Shearer believes the relegation is already done.

Ditto Paul Merson, who is adamant Wolves will stay up.

Obviously it’s the Ipswich game on Saturday, and while Wolves will be out to win the game, it’s important they just don’t lose.

Losing the game may just see a bit of doubt creep in, although a six-point gap would still be quite healthy.

Winning the game, and opening up a 12-point gap again would all but seal Wolves’ safety with seven games to go. There is also the major psychological boost that beating Ipswich would give.
