The message is loud and clear from Wolves fans as club promote Matt Jackson

The promotion of Matt Jackson has given Wolves fans the opportunity to send a clear message to the club’s hierarchy.

Wolves last night announced that Jackson is the club’s new technical director following the exit of Domenico Teti earlier this month.

Teti had a slightly different job title of director of professional football, with Jackson now becoming technical director, which was the position Scott Sellars held last.

This promotion for Jackson at Wolves had been on the cards.

After Teti left, he was then the highest football executive figure at the club.

He is now tasked with trying to get Wolves’ first-team squad in order, following the club’s dismal start to the 2025/26 season.

How he approaches the January window remains to be seen, because Wolves’ strategy may well be informed by how far from safety they are.

Wolves fans expressed their dismay recently over reports Jackson was set for a promotion at Wolves.

Some have questioned whether Jackson has the right experience for the roles, with others suggesting the appointment is lazy as it is an internal hire.

It’s not clear whether Wolves approached any external candidates for the technical director role.

But Jackson is now in place in his new position, and has a huge amount to do.

On social media, the announcement by Wolves about Jackson did not go down well, with many taking the opportunity to slam Jeff Shi and Fosun.

Have Fosun appointed the right technical director in Matt Jackson?

@peterfrydman1: “Jeff Shi you have destroyed this football club. This appointment is a joke and akin to rehiring Scott Sellars. What was the point of sacking Matt Hobbs? Massive downgrade and someone with no track record and won’t be able to convince good players to come.”

@WWFCJimBob: “Completely lost interest when I saw this. Another bloke not qualified for the role put in just to say ‘Yes, Mr Shi’.”

@WWFC_Bren: “Whole club has finally given up. Roll on next season.”

@JOS20560689: “Ha ha ha ha. Absolutely laughable. Sell up now Fosun. Shi out and Fosun out.”

@LTCwolf: “Absolutely no one cares. We just want Fosun out.”

@molineuxmusings: “I see they’ve rearranged the deckchairs on the Titanic then.”

@themichaellabe: “Not good enough for the role in June. Good enough for the role in November 🙃”

@mitchey316: “Can’t have anyone who’ll question the chairman.”

Jackson promotion underwhelming

No doubt Jackson will work hard to try and rectify Wolves’ situation, but fans’ frustrations over this are understandable.

Things have been so bad, that many feel a completely fresh pair of eyes are needed.

If that can’t be at ownership level, then it needs to be at recruitment level. Jackson has played a part in the awful current situation, so the fact he’s now been moved into the technical director role is questionable.

The decision does not really communicate that Fosun understand the gravity of the situation.

Wolves’ dreadful situation may well have deterred external candidates, but it seems the club didn’t even really look beyond what they already had.
