The likely role Jorge Mendes could now play as Wolves sack Vitor Pereira

Jorge Mendes has had an interesting relationship with Wolves, as three of his managerial clients have all taken on the head coach role at Molineux.

Nuno Espirito Santo, Bruno Lage, and most recent boss Vitor Pereira are part of his Gestifute agency, and the agent has also had influence in the club’s transfers.

Mendes has often tried to sell the Wolves project to many of the players he represents, but he did also turn villain in the summer.

The agent represents Jorgen Strand Larsen, and reports said Mendes pushed for the Norwegian to join Newcastle.

However, Vitor Pereira has now been sacked, and Jorge Mendes could be an important figure in the hunt for a new manager.

Jorge Mendes could be crucial in the search for new Wolves manager

With Wolves in need of a new head coach, they could turn to Jorge Mendes to help them once more, just as they did after Gary O’Neil was let go.

Wolves face Chelsea next Saturday evening, and it is unclear if a replacement will be signed in time.

However, they could also use the upcoming international break to try and find the best solution. Throughout negotiations, Jorge Mendes could be quite involved, according to reports.

An article by the Athletic’s Steve Madeley states, “In all likelihood, Wolves would turn to Jorge Mendes, the agent with close links to Fosun, to replace one of his Gestifute clients with another if they decide that Pereira’s time is up.”

The writing was on the wall for Vitor Pereira after a run of ten Premier League games without a win, culminating in an unwanted record for Wolves.

Former Wolves manager Bruno Lage is the only Jorge Mendes client without a job

The probability of Wolves paying a fee to get a manager out of a current contract is slim, but nearly all of Jorge Mendes’ clients, according to Transfermarkt, are all locked up in deals at football clubs already.

However, former Wolves man Bruno Lage is the only man without a job.

While Lage’s first season at Molineux resulted in a 10th-place finish, bringing him back would not be wise.

His time at the club ended with reported fall-outs with members of his squad and poor man management, as stated by The Athletic back in 2022.

If Wolves feel they have to pay to get the right man, Sergio Conceicao, who has previously been linked with the job, could be an interesting option.

He is currently at Saudi club Al-Ittihad.
