The likelihood of Wolves ending their losing streak vs Man United, as Opta weighs in

Wolves head to Old Trafford with just one thing on their mind: a chance to turn their fortunes around.

The Old Gold are on an 11-game losing streak, which places them third all-time for the longest run of successive losses in the Premier League.

A strong second-half performance from the Wanderers provided some optimism, and the introduction of Mateus Mane has been a big breath of fresh air, but the last time Wolves came away with a good performance vs Arsenal, they followed it up with disappointment against Brentford.

Rob Edwards will be hoping to avoid that possibility from happening again, and he does have the benefit of previously playing for Manchester United.

The reverse fixture ended in a 4-1 defeat at Molineux for Wolves, and their chances of seeking revenge this season have been revealed by the Opta supercomputer.

Just a few days after facing Liverpool at Anfield, Wolves now head to another iconic English football ground, Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim had Rob Edwards’ number just a few weeks back, when the Old Gold capitulated in the second half at Molineux.

Man United scored three goals in the final 45 minutes, with Rob Edwards comparing his side’s defensive work to ‘like a kids’ game’.

He’ll be looking to rectify that performance and get a better tune out of his squad, and his chances have been laid bare by Opta.

According to the data powerhouse, Wolves are major underdogs. The Old Gold have just a 13.2% chance of picking up three points but have slightly better odds of a draw at 17%.

The home side are huge favourites with a 69.8% likelihood of securing three points.

However, odds have been upset before, and if a performance akin to the second half at Anfield can be reproduced, there is a real chance Wolves can get a result.

Rob Edwards could even take a risk by changing formation in Tuesday night’s Premier League clash.

Bruno Fernandes’ injury is a big boost for Wolves

While Man United did beat Wolves 4-1 just a few weeks back, a lot has happened since that day at Molineux.

The Red Devils have a lot of key players out of action due to injury and due to AFCON participation, giving them a much-depleted squad. Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui and Bruno Fernandes will not feature.

Bruno Fernandes’ absence is certainly the biggest loss for Wolves’ opposition, and the Wanderers will be relieved he cannot punish them again.

In the 4-1 loss, the Portuguese midfielder had a hand in three of Manchester United’s goals (two goals and one assist).

Without their captain and most creative player, Ruben Amorim’s side may not pose as much of a threat as they did previously.

The Old Gold conceded 27 shots back in the early December matchup.
