The four Wolves players who Vitor Pereira has chosen to make up the new ‘leadership group’

Over the course of the transfer window, Wolves have lost a number of their dressing room leaders.

Matheus Cunha departed earlier in the summer, and captain Nelson Semedo has left recently, joining Fenerbahçe.

This initially left Vitor Pereira entering the new Premier League season without a recognised captain in his Wolves squad, a vital role that every team needs.

However, ahead of the first match of the campaign, the manager has confirmed the four players who will make up his leadership group.

Matt Doherty, Toti Gomes, José Sá, and João Gomes named in Wolves leadership group

A new Wolves leadership group has been formed ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, with Vitor Pereira choosing four players as part of it.

Toti Gomes, José Sá, João Gomes, and Matt Doherty have all been selected by the manager to form his new leadership group.

All four players have previously worn the armband for the Old Gold and will look to rally the squad ahead of this season’s matches.

This quartet will be looked upon to set the standard in both training and on the pitch. Additionally, young players will look to them for advice.

Their influence could be crucial in tight-knit games or in fixtures where Wolves are looking to hold onto a good result.

Why Vitor Pereira chose these four players to lead Wolves

It will come as no surprise to Wolves fans to see Matt Doherty and Toti Gomes given the responsibility ahead of the new season.

Doherty and Gomes shared the armband against CD Santa Clara in pre-season, with the Portuguese being named captain in the first half, followed by the Irishman in the second.

Additionally, in the case of the other two players, José Sá, at 31 years old, carries a vast level of experience, and João Gomes has been praised by teammates, with Marshall Munetsi previously describing João Gomes as a leader.

These four players will have a huge level of responsibility this season; as pundits are predicting Wolves to be in a relegation fight, they will need as much experience as possible.
